LIFE ON EARTH
LIFE ON EARTH TRILOGY
Part 1: ASI ES LA VIDA - A piece for one audience member. As you sit at the desk of Night Watchman Ramon Villalobos, keeping an eye on Museums Quartier over the security cameras, the phone rings. On the line is the voice of a woman. She tells you to look at security camera image number one. There she is. She waves and begins to tell the life story of the man whose seat you are sitting in. As she travels through his life, you track her from one security camera to the next as she moves through the hidden corners of the theater.
Part 2: ON EARTH - It begins in a theater where an audience is told about a mythical place called Macondo…a place that really exists. Surprise! There’s a bus waiting for them outside, ready to take them there. The performance ends at a party in Ramon Villalobos’s garden in Macondo, a former Austro-Hungarian army barracks where successive waves of refugees have been brought and left behind, creating a place unlike anywhere else on Earth.
Part 3: LIFE ON EARTH - The party is over; the guest have gone home—but CABULA6 has moved in. We get a refugee apartment and a garden plot from the Republic of Austria. And we live, for a year. We make friends. We take care of kids, chauffeur old ladies, fix roofs, learn to cook. It ends with a bus ride…back to the theater, where two audiences from two different worlds collide—over a home-cooked meal and a radio play.
